3 steps to the life you want

Why are you not living the life you want to live?
You’re not alone – I think that the vast majority of people are not living the life they want to live.
You needed a job when you finished studying, so you got one that would do “for now” but that was 15 years ago and you’re still putting the same uniform on every day.
You’re a little bit uncomfortable about the pounds (or stones!) that have crept on over the years, your wardrobe is chock-a-block with clothes that you’ll wear again when you’ve lost the weight.
You’ve no time to do anything meaningful, so you just watch another boxset instead.
You’re being swept along in the flow of everyday life – not comfortable enough to say you’re happy with they way things are, but not uncomfortable enough to actually make an effort to change things – and that’s why you are not living the life you want to live.
You might have something come along that slaps you around the face and makes you take hold of your life the hard way – redundancy, illness or bereavement maybe. Sometimes it would be a relief if something came along that made it so that making a change was no longer an option but a necessity.
Or you could stop waiting to be forced into it, and make it happen for yourself.
Make what happen though? What is the plan? What is the dream? This is the next reason you are not living the life you want – you don’t know what it is you want!

A few of you might be thinking that I’m wrong, you do not what you want – brilliant, make a plan and get on with it then, what are you waiting for?!
The rest of you have just realised that I am right – you’ve got fantasies of winning the euro-millions and living on a private island with topless waiters bringing you cocktails, but that’s not really the life you want.
If that really is the life you want to live but aren’t then its down to your strategy. You do not have control over whether or not you win the lottery – you need a better plan to get the billions needed to live that life.
In simple bullet points here is how to live the life you want.
1. Figure out what you want
2. Make a plan of which you are fully in control
3. Get on with it

Here’s a little secret to make it easier. The more grateful you are for what you already have, the less you’ll feel compelled to change. Find more joy in the simple things in life and you’ll figure out that you already have most of the things you need to live the life you want.
